“The BEST rally we have ever attended!” This was how one of our out of state couples
described the fun times they enjoyed at the 2015 Florida Fall Rally in Eustis the week
before Thanksgiving. This was the largest rally we have had with 409 rigs in attendance.
With the theme of “Memories of Christmas Past” the staff went above and beyond with
our crazy requests and extra work to make sure everyone had a great time all week.
Tuesday evening the early birds at Samgo enjoyed a special candy treat that Ralph and
Jane and the staff had put together for them earlier in the week. Wednesday and
Thursday started the quest for the plastic winner badges as both the indoor and outdoor
games got under way. Thursday afternoon we celebrated with several couples who had
been married 50 years with a party in their honor. Friday brought more games to play
and our annual dog walk to help raise funds for the Dogs for the Deaf and Florida Guide
Dogs. There were a lot of very cute costumes and well behaved contestants! We also
found out how many talented members we have upon perusing the craft contest Friday
morning. As we started the evening program Sharon and Pam were able to join us as
she did a wonderful job officiating over our memorial service for our Good Sam
members we had lost in the last year. Saturday morning started with our Presidents (and
spouses) Breakfast which is a small token of thanks for all they do for the chapters all
year long, followed by the State Committee meeting. Saturday afternoon everyone
enjoyed the Memories of Christmas booths and The Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest. All
of the contestants did a fantastic job which created a tough job for the judges to
determine the winners. We had three entries this year for Chapter of the Year including
Golden Triangle Sams, Jax Rambling Sams, and Trail Blazing Sams. On Saturday
evening after some very tough decisions and comparisons we had the honor of
introducing Trail Blazing Sams as the Florida Chapter of the Year for 2015.
Congratulations and Good Luck in the Nationals! After enjoying the evening
entertainment with Patty Waszak we had a visit from Santa and Mrs Claus pulling a
sleigh full of door prizes of which our wonderful staff had wrapped each one so no one
knew what they were getting and created a lot of surprises as they were opened! We
would like to once again thank our wonderful, hardworking staff, Camping World,
Southern Palms, all our Chapters for their donations and help, and everyone that helped
in any way to make this a memorable occasion for all that attended.
Our next rally will be our winter “Rally in Tally” at the North Florida Fairgrounds in
Tallahassee February 3rd thru 7th with early bird on the 2nd. The theme is “Good Sam
turns 50” as 2016 will be the 50th anniversary of the organization. We will have a Rig/
Site decorating contest with this theme. We will also be setting up an area in one of the
buildings if your chapter has any old photos or history items you would like to display.
Carefree Sams has also volunteered to host another “Ugly Clothing Contest”?? –
Details to follow! Also we just learned that we will have the honor of hosting the
Southeast Regional Directors Meeting the weekend before and all seven Good Sam
State Directors in our region will be attending our rally all week so come on out and
enjoy the time together with our neighbors! We are now accepting registrations for our
Spring Rally in Okeechobee and they are coming in at a steady pace. Once again if you
want to go to this one please get your registration in early as we have less sites than
last year and sell that one out early!
May God Bless you and keep you safe until we meet again!
Joe and Debbie Weston, State Directors
